ReddCoin (RDD) is a social currency that was inspired by Reddit and the desire to be able to tip community members and send microtransactions. Because ReddCoin can be integrated easily with all major social networks, it’s ideal for sending digital currency to fellow users as a reward scheme for posting good content. The ReddCoin blockchain is powered by a method known as proof of stake velocity that encourages individuals to both acquire coins and to use them.

The cryptocurrency has its own tipping platform which can be used to support and reward content via micro-donations. There is also the ability to assign a Redd-ID to a social network username and to associate public keys with it. The ReddCoin wallet has a number of features built-in that are designed to encourage users to spend the currency and transmit it to other users.

The IPCO was a two-phase public offering. In round one, which closed shortly before the official launch of the Reddcoin network, 2.2 billion Reddcoins were offered to investors, distributed based on the number of shares they had purchased. After round two, which lasted an additional two weeks until February 15th, the remaining 3.25 billion Reddcoins were distributed to first and second-round investors according to their share. In this way, those investors that contributed early before the official launch of Reddcoin were rewarded with a greater share of coins.

Over 90 days from mid-February to mid-May, IPCO investors were paid 1.11% of their total share of the 5.45 billion Reddcoins each day. After Reddcoin's shift to PoSV reduced the total number of Reddcoins in circulation to roughly 27 billion coins, this 5.45 billion count represented approximately 20% of the total number of coins in circulation. However, by distributing these coins over a long period, and thanks to relatively low prices for Reddcoin on cryptocurrency Exchanges for most of the first 6 months of the coin's existence, this change did not create a vastly disproportionate control of coins in the hands of IPCO investors, as anyone was able to buy Reddcoins at approximately the same price as IPCO investors for many months.
